To make your newborn photos even more adorable, you should use props. We recommend purchasing the right newborn photo shoot props if you want to engage in a safe newborn session.
When I do a newborn photo session, I like to keep things simple and add a few essentials, plus one or two special items. Each of the items below has been tried and tested to ensure that they produce the best results and give us both, as the parent and me the photographer, exactly what we want.

Must-Have Newborn Photography Props
This list will help you find new props to use for baby photos. These newborn photo shoot props are essential for newborn photographers. You should always have at least one of these props with you on your next baby shoot.
1. Wraps
Our top choice for newborn props is the wrap. These wraps are lightweight and easy to store or take with you to newborn sessions at home. We love this prop for photography because it helps to calm a newborn.
Babies are used to being wrapped. Nearly all newborn photos include at least one pose using a wrap. They also allow you to include family members in shots that safely hold your baby. You should have a variety of wraps, including sizes, colors, and materials.
2. Bean Bag
It can be difficult to position a newborn baby in a comfortable and safe place. The beanbag can be used as a prop for photos to position the baby in a comfortable and easy way. It molds to the baby’s body, and it is a great backdrop for making the baby stand out and retaining the main focus. Be careful not to wake the baby while placing them. As they can easily roll away. Place the baby in the middle and have a parent nearby.
You can use regular bean bags to photograph newborns. Because regular bean bags are not flat on top and can submerge the baby, it is important to search online for newborn bean bags. A vinyl cover is also recommended as it protects the prop against fluids and spits from newborns, which can be quite common. Vinyl covers are also easy to clean and disinfect to ensure the safety of your next client.
3. Backgrounds and Stands
The background is another top prop for newborn photography! To ensure your subject’s safety, you will need to invest in a stand. Either invest in backgrounds or use a cloth or a blanket. It is ideal because it prevents your background from getting wrinkled and blocks the floor.
4. Rugs

Rugs are simple and straightforward newborn photography props. They can be easily transported like a wrap and provide a cozy backdrop. These are great for placing the baby on their stomachs or having a sibling with them. A tip for choosing colors is to use contrasting colors between the wrap and the rug. This will add depth to your images.
5. Hats and Headbands
Knitted headbands or hats make great newborn photography props. It keeps your baby warm and provides comfort while they sleep. Consider themed hats related to family members or holidays.
6. Faux Fur
Faux fur is a great friend for newborn photos. The faux fur looks great on its own, but it can also be used in baskets, drawers, or crates. It can be more costly than other photography props, so think about how many newborn shoots each day you will be using it for before purchasing one.
7. Bed of Books
This photo prop is great because it is simple to make and reflects the parents’ personalities. Find out about the book-loving parents before the shoot. You might also find a stack of books that the parents read to their babies before putting them to sleep.
